Dear Parents and Guardians:

I can’t believe it’s already October! Time is flying by. I wanted to make sure everyone knows that ITBS testing starts on October 11th-15th. I will be sending home reminders to the people who signed up to bring treats during that week. Please be on the look out for the reminder.

This week in science the students observed two micro-organisms, Volvox and Blepharisma, under the microscopes. The students had a blast while observing them and the students also brought up great questions that led to insightful class discussions. Next week, we will continue to look at some more micro-organisms.

For the last two weeks, Team 4 has been getting ready for ITBS testing. Each classroom has been going over test taking strategies for each content area. For example, this week our class went over reading comprehension test taking strategies and general test taking strategies. Some things to talk about at home are making sure that your child is getting enough sleep and is eating breakfast. Not getting enough sleep and not eating breakfast can greatly affect your child’s score on his/her ITBS tests. If you have any questions or concerns about ITBS, please email me.

On Wednesday, we started guided reading groups. I am really looking forward to working with all of the students during this time. My goal is to meet with all students at least 2 or 3 times a week, or more if needed. Our class is on a 2 week schedule. For example, if I met group A three times this week, I will meet with them 2 times next week. This way, I am able to meet with all students an equal amount of time. However, some students do need additional support or additional enrichment, so some students have 2 guided reading groups or I see them everyday.
